A 1-pair screen cable is a type of twisted-pair cable that's shielded to protect against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI).

Purpose

Screened cables prevent external electromagnetic energy from corrupting data travelling down the cable, and they also keep electromagnetic energy inside the cable to prevent it from being a source of interference.

Construction

A 1-pair screen cable consists of two conductors twisted together, which carry signals in opposite directions.

Uses

Screened cables are often used in computing and instrumentation setups, as well as for telephone and data networks. They can also be used for connecting audio equipment, PA systems, security gate intercoms, and building management cabling.
